De laatste etappe van de Tour de France Femmes leidt het peloton naar de hoogste pieken en door de oudste gesteenten uit het Devoon; de periode van invasie van het land.
Today the peloton will ride over the collision zone of rocks derived from the mega-continent Gondwanaland in the south, and the Euramerican continent to the north. The Tour-cyclist would have seen an environment in the Vosges that looks like Brazil today.
De etappe van vandaag brengt het peloton door gesteenten die afgezet zijn in het Perm, waarschijnlijk de minst gastvrije periode die door de Tour de France Femmes werd bezocht. Van een ijstijd met woestijnen tot opwarming van de aarde en massa extinctie.
De start vindt plaats in de bovenste Jura (~145 Ma) bij Bar-le Duc, in de wereld van de dinosauriërs, en daarna rijden de coureurs terug door de geologische tijd naar de onderste Trias (~251 Ma) bij Saint-Dié.
